Our Kindergarten/Early Years Curriculum

Our meticulously planned, structured early years programme is a testament to our world-class Early Years provision in Bergamo.

High-quality early years pedagogy supports learning in the pre-kindergarten phase, in which the globally renowned Reggio Emilia approach is seamlessly integrated with the IB programme.

At age 3, learners embark on the IB PYP framework, which emphasises holistic development and cultivates key competencies through play, exploration and discovery.

Grade 1 prepares students for elementary school and comprises four units, focusing on play and inquiry. Personal, social and emotional development is prioritised, along with self-management, communication, early reading and writing, and mathematical language.

Language Immersion in Our Kindergarten/Early Years

The early years at our Bergamo preschool include an English full-immersion programme. Children use numerous tools and resources to develop strong reading, writing and speaking skills throughout Early Years, gaining competence from an early age.

Students begin to work with words and letters, associate sounds with rhyming patterns, and identify sounds and letters in their own and each other’s names.

Italian language classes are introduced in Grade 1 to provide a solid basis for bilingual and multilingual skills development and expand learners’ knowledge and awareness of their local context.

Passionate, Dedicated Kindergarten/Early Years Staff

Our dedicated team of early years teachers support learners as they nurture foundational skills and qualities throughout the early years. By engaging actively with each learner, our preschool staff foster their unique characters and cultivate essential communication, social and self-management skills through regular discussions, questions and opportunities for play and achievement. To support children with special education needs (SEN), we have a dedicated SEN specialist who develops strategies and activities for addressing learning or behavioural difficulties.

Kindergarten/Early Years Activities to Maximise Our Learners' Potential

Play is the driver for all learning in the early years. Through regular play and exploration, students will learn to inquire as they build and test theories, helping them make sense of the world around them. Our transdisciplinary early years programme uses play as a learning tool for children to apply their language and mathematical skills to different contexts, consolidating learnings, exploring connections and developing their symbolic competency.
